In 2015, the North Lamar/Georgian Acres neighborhood team led the effort to have a North Austin seat added to the city’s Community Development Commission (CDC). The Community Development Commission (CDC) advises city council “in the development and implementation of programs designed to serve the poor and the community at large with emphasis on federally funded programs.” These include hundreds of millions of dollars in affordable housing bonds, community block grant spending, and neighborhood services.

Our North Austin area is unique in the number of immigrants and the number of children we have. It’s important that we have our own voice in advising on community development decisions.
