Traffic Calming (February 2018 update)

In 2013, for both the North Lamar and the Georgian Acres neighborhood planning areas, the neighborhood team identified traffic calming as the top priority for the city’s capital budget. In 2015, stakeholders throughout the area prioritized traffic calming to Councilman Casar for the city’s “quarter cent funds”. In 2017, the city began installation.

We have the following streets in various stages of the process:

  • Georgian, Powell to Home
The last set of white plastic sticks will be installed when the sidewalk construction is out of the way. There will not be a set of humps just south of the bridge, because it would be so close to the house there.
  • 14A-0012 W Elliott
Elliott is scheduled for installation early this year. Great job, Brooke and Julia!
  • 13B-0022 Beaver
Thanks, Jeremy! Beaver is scheduled for installation early this year.
  • 14A-0036 North Creek, Rundberg to Rock Hollow
North Creek is scheduled for installation by April. Thanks, Rolando!
  • 16B-0059 E Powell Georgian to IH35 frontage road
Thanks, Jeremy! Powell Ln met the eligibility criteria, but didn’t quite complete the petition with signatures from the owner or resident of each property. Right now, the city is revising their process for demonstrating community support. We don’t know yet if we will have to start over from scratch, or just finish off this petition.
  • 12B-0004 Applegate, North Lamar to Brownie
Applegate meets the eligibility criteria. The first application for Applegate expired without being funded. The city has not yet provided the petition form for the second application.
  • 13A-0050 Wonsley, Purnell to Gessner
Wonsley met the eligibility requirements, but did not complete the petition with signatures from an owner or resident of each property. This request has expired and needs to be resubmitted.
  • 14B-0023 Oriole
Oriole met the eligibility requirements, but did not complete the petition with signatures from an owner or resident of each property. This request has expired and needs to be resubmitted. Thank you, Sherry.
  • Brownie, Diamondback to the park
Residents are ready to apply when the city reopens the application process.
  • 14A-0008 East Dr
East Dr met the eligibility requirements, but residents on the street decided not to continue with the step of submitting signatures to the city. This application has expired. Thanks, Beverly!
  • 16B-0041 Deen
Deen met the eligibility requirements. However, the resident who submitted the request for traffic calming decided not to continue to the next step of gathering signatures from each property. This request will expire in fall 2018. Thanks, Pat (with an assist from Lyn).
  • 13A-0049 Purnell, 183 to Wonsley
Did not meet speeding criteria. There are roughly 1000 cars per day, but the 85th percentile speeds were only 26.5 & 29, with a 30mph limit.
