Memo: Increase Connectivity to N. Lamar and Georgian Acres Planning Area
Georgian Acres Neighborhood Association members and other volunteers went door-to-door in the area around the park with a survey about what people wanted to see at the new park. Then, consultant James Rojas conducted several hands-on workshops with residents, students, parents, and refugees in our area, to share their childhood memories and build models of an ideal park.
A community meeting and an online survey requested “We are not asking that you vote for your favorite concept plan. Tell us what you like about them and what works best for your community and personal needs.”

They also had some specific questions:
- Do you think the playscape should be visible from John Nance Garner Circle or be located closer to the middle of the park?
- Would you prefer one large picnic shelter, 3 smaller picnic shelters or one large multi-use space that could be used for basketball, large gatherings or events and as a picnic shelter with movable picnic tables as needed?
- What small park amenities besides a water fountain, bike racks and grills would you like to see in the park?
- Are there items in the photos that appeal to you and you think should be included in the park?
Meanwhile, a licensed surveyor mapped and identified all the trees on the park land.
