As you may know, IDEA Public Schools opened a K-12 school this fall on the the land between Oriole Drive and IH-35. As presented at our meeting last year, a neighborhood entrance (in addition to the main I-35 entrance) is also planned.

To provide this neighborhood access, IDEA has agreed to complete the connection between Brownie and Longspur Drive and allow Parks and Recreation to purchase the six acres north of the school (between the school and the new road) for parkland.

Specific plans for the park will be developed by Parks and Recreation Department at a later date with input from the neighborhood.

The school entrance off this new road segment will mean children in the neighborhood won’t have to walk or bike to school along I-35. The new road will also provide access to the park.

Objective P.2: Improve the access to and safety of Brownie Playground.
Objective T.1: Improve sidewalk connections throughout the neighborhood.
Objective T.2: Improve bicycle connections within, into, and through the neighborhoods.
Objective Q.2: Ensure public safety throughout the neighborhood.
Objective Q.12: Promote healthy behaviors among residents.
Objective Q.13: Promote a healthy environment within the neighborhood.
