Our newest school, IDEA Rundberg Public School, opened its doors this past August with K, 1, 2, and 5th grades.
Students (the “Rundberg Rattlers”) were attentive at the recent dedication ceremony where they led the audience in the pledge of allegiance, and then listened to kudos for their teachers and speeches from the director, principal, and assistant principal celebrating their accomplishments. The community, students, staff, and parents were all recognized for the role they play in success.
IDEA Rundberg will add 2 grades each year (3 and 6 next year) until it covers pre-k to 12th grade. The Rattlers have good school spirit, and by now are quite well settled in both to the building (which was previously the old Showplace Lanes Bowling Alley) and to the disciplined, structured culture of their new school. IDEA expects all of its students to prepare for college and will offer multiple AP courses in high school. As a Texas Charter School attendance is free, but applications must be submitted in advance, and are put into a lottery drawing.
A tour revealed that in addition to the new cafe-nasium building and the former bowling alley there is a two story building planned which will eventually house all of the early grades. The bowling alley, now retrofitted with skylights which make it light and bright, will become the high school at that point.
