Called meeting April 30, 2015 (9310 Georgian)

The community meeting called by the city on the Neighborhood Plan Amendment and the related Zoning Change for 9310 Georgian was held Thursday April 30, 2015 at Little Walnut Creek Library from 6:30-8:00. The City mailed notices of the meeting to residents and property owners within 500 feet of the proposed change.

The North Lamar/Georgian Acres Neighborhood Plan Contact Team held a called meeting immediately following to take a vote on whether to support or oppose the proposal. No other business was conducted.

May 4, 2015 Letter from Chair Julia Foree to Neighborhood Planning case manager Maureen Meredith:

Dear Ms. Meredith,

From those present at last Thursday evening’s meeting, both the community member and the contact team votes were unanimously opposed to the new zoning change request.

We did not feel that the fact that the owner incorrectly gave a five year lease to a tenant to operate a non-permitted commercial business, nor the fact that said business is keeping its property clean and tidy was a compelling argument for rezoning the property to correct the owner’s mistake.

We feel the current LR zoning, reflecting the result of the owner’s 2012 request to change from residential to Neighborhood Commercial, is still appropriate for the property and that there are adequate conforming legal uses for the property under the current zoning. In addition, we have concerns that the illegal mattress sales which continue to occur on weekends (including this past May 3) at the property are an indicator that the owner has little regard for zoning restrictions in the first place.

We sincerely hope that the owner will help the proprietor of the existing non-conforming business to find another more suitably zoned location in our area at which to continue his business, and that he will move a zoning-appropriate business into the 9310 property.

I have cc’d what I believe to be the owner’s agent’s email address (per Google). I am not sure, as I never had any direct communication from him.
