Parks and Rec Department has installed new playscapes and swings to replace the very old and worn-out equipment at the shared Barrington school playground and city park. They also installed an engineered wood fiber surface in place of the pea gravel and rubber mat. This will eventually pack down and provide a surface that’s safe for falls, and accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
The replacement adult exercise equipment is ready to be ordered, and will probably be installed this summer. Marathon Kids has offered to help organize a class to talk about the best way to use the equipment, and how to incorporate it into a circuit or interval training routine.
The landscape architect designed an arrangement with a separate adult area. This will allow parents to exercise within eyesight of their children or other family members using the playground, covered play area, and soccer field.
She also developed locations for shade trees, to the west of the playscapes and exercise equipment, as well as along Rundberg. We’ll need to keep working with the city and the school district to arrange for irrigation to get those trees planted, and to install a water fountain for the soccer field. Contact the neighborhood team if you’d like to help, with volunteers or through a business sponsorship.
