$37 million for North Austin streets

Thursday, May 3 from 6:30-8:30 at Lanier HS public hearing on the bond election

The City of Austin Bond Advisory Task Force will hear project recommendations from their Transportation/Mobility Committee on Monday. The committee is recommending $252.65 million in transportation funding for the 2012 bond package, including $34.2 million for safety and accessibility improvements on North Lamar Blvd and Burnet, and $3 million for Airport.

Besides improvements on North Lamar and other streets, the committee is proposing $57.6 million for city-wide programs including sidewalks, bike lanes, intersection improvements, and routine repairs of streets and bridges.

You can participate in the effort to get funding for North Lamar Boulevard improvements:

At each bond task force meeting so far this year, one of your neighbors made a brief presentation explaining issues such as the large number of school children who have to cross Lamar, difficulty of bus stop access for people with disabilities, traffic safety and congestion, and the opportunities of our international business district. We’d like to let the task force see the fabulous variety of people who live, work, own businesses, and go to school along our street, and hear why North Lamar improvements matter to each of us.

Details of the proposed North Lamar Boulevard safety improvements, including raised medians, complete sidewalks, improved intersections, street trees, and pedestrian crosswalks.
