Elementary school overcrowding

AISD has approved several changes in our area to reduce school overcrowding.
How overcrowded are our north central elementaries?

Starting with the 2012-13 school year:
1. PreK, kindergarten and first grade students from the southeast part of the current Barrington attendance zone will go to Webb.
2. For the rest of the Barrington attendance zone, all 6th graders will also go to Webb. PreK will go to Reilly (located just off of Airport, across from Highland Mall).
3. Walnut Creek 6th graders will go to Dobie.

For the 2013-14 school year, a new elementary would open located north of the Rundberg/Georgian intersection. Funding was approved in the 2004 bond referendum, but AISD didn’t close on the property until November of this year.

For the 2014-15 school year, AISD plans to open another elementary in north central Austin using funding approved in the 2008 bond referendum, either by building a new school or by converting an existing building to a school.

Recommendation 35: Encourage residential and commercial participation in several energy efficiency programs sponsored by Austin Energy.
