Happy Brownie planters

In April, the volunteer team from It’s My Park Day at Brownie Playground continued their neighborhood beautification work, moving one block up the street to an abandoned planter at the corner of Brownie and Diamondback. Using materials donated by City of Austin Water Utility (dillo dirt), the volunteer-run greenhouse at Balcones Canyonlands Preserve’s Reicher Ranch (native plants), and local residents (plants), the team added a touch of beauty for residents and passers-by.

The children are also maintaining the park, picking up litter and recyclables regularly. They used plastic soda bottles as a drip irrigation system for the planter.

The next project will be vegetable gardening in the back yard of one of the Brownie fourplexes.
